Free Crochet Jug/Bowl Cover Pattern

Hello fellow crafty people.   :)

Jug and bowl covers are a pretty and practical way to keep annoying insects away from your juice, milk and sugar.  In the picture above the cover is shown on a sugar bowl.  They are quick to make and are very acceptable presents.  Leave off the beads and you have a nice small doily.

I made this as a sugar bowl cover for my husband's place of work, the Clinical Trials Research Unit. The centre is made of 25 rows of 25 double crochet and you could use this as a canvas for your own beadwork, embroidery or cross stitch. A charming design could also be made by arranging 'little holes' achieved by replacing double crochets with 1 chain.

There is an alternative chart provided with the pattern that has filet in the centre instead of the solid square.

You will need 40 jug beads, pre-threaded onto your yarn for the last row. If you choose to do a seed-bead design in the centre work out how many you will need and pre-thread these on first if your method of attaching them requires it. Worked in number 40 crochet thread and a 1mm hook this cover measures approximately 18cm across, not including beads.

I hope you enjoy making it...  Megan

The cover measures approximately 18cm across, not including the beads.  The jug beads are made of glass and are 8mm in diameter and 5mm thick.  You can use larger or smaller beads.

This close-up of the centre will help you to see how the first row of meshes for the filet were spaced around the square.

This close-up view will help with the special instructions that accompany the chart for the large diamond.

This close-up view will help you to see the construction of the small diamonds.

This close-up view will help with the instructions on the chart for the final round.
