Heirloom Crochet Bib

I am not the original designer for this lovely heirloom baby's bib. That clever person seems to be lost in the mists of history - thank you, whoever you were!

This bib came to me because a woman in South Africa, Hilde, had the original bib (getting rather old now) and there was no pattern for her to make another. She sent it to me after attempts to work it out from a photograph failed and with the aid of a magnifying glass I deciphered how it was made.

It would be a lovely gift for a christening, baptism or naming ceremony, but it is also a very durable and practical bib that will last well enough to become a family heirloom even if you do use it.

I have copied the original design almost exactly. The construction is the same, as are all the design elements. I have made a couple of small refinements to the pattern, though, that you can choose to ignore if you wish - but first you have to spot them!
